Florida: 1 million cases and counting

HOLT, Fla., Dec. 1, 2020—The state blew past the 1 million COVID-19 case milestone today.

Today’s additional 8,847 new cases brings the state’s total to 1,008,166 since the first cases were reported March 3.

Of those, Okaloosa County accounted for 108 of today’s new total.

Holt added two new cases; Baker added one. Laurel Hill counted two more new cases; Crestview added 33. Milligan remained the same at two total.

Since March 3, the state has added new cases every day except for March 7, according to data from the COVID Tracking Project.

Florida is only the third state to surpass the 1 million milestone, behind Texas and California who have 1.24 million and 1.23 million respectively.

The state with the next highest number of cases is Illinois with 738,846, according to data from the Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 dashboard.
