HOLT, Fla., Dec. 31, 2020—Florida set a new daily COVID-19 record today by adding 17,192 new virus cases, bringing the statewide total to 1,323,315.
This record-setting jump is the highest number of daily reported cases since the pandemic began.
Across the state, 133 new virus-related deaths were reported today. Florida will begin the New Year by exceeding 22,000 deaths with tomorrow’s update, if the Florida Department of Health releases updated figures on New Year’s Day.
Okaloosa County added five deaths bringing the total to 231.
Holt and Laurel Hill both added five new virus cases; Crestview added 52.
Florida is one of four states leading the country in COVID-19 cases. In order, with the highest number of cases, is California with 2.3 million, Texas with 1.8 million, Florida with 1.3 million and New York with 978,783.
