State sets another single-day record

HOLT, Fla., Jan. 7, 2021—Florida posted new record-breaking numbers today by adding nearly 20,000 new virus cases, breaking yesterday’s single-day record by more than 2,000.

Another 19,816 new COVID-19 cases were added, increasing the statewide total to 1,429,722.

Florida’s population of 21.5 million means about one in 15 people here have been infected with the virus.

North Okaloosa County communities contributed to today’s record by adding 66 new cases. Holt and Baker each added three. Laurel Hill added 1. Crestview added 59.

Across the nation, Illinois topped one million cases today, the fifth state to reach that milestone.
