Holt man arrested on manslaughter charge Wednesday

HOLT, Fla., Aug. 26, 2021—A man died from a shotgun wound during an argument in Holt Wednesday evening.

Arrested is Ronald Franklin Norris, 61, on charges of negligent manslaughter in association with the death.

Norris was home alone at his Wilkerson Bluff residence when he heard his front door open around 7:30 p.m., according to an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.

He said he walked toward the door with a loaded shotgun and found his wife inside the home.

While the two were arguing, another man came in the house saying he was there for the woman’s safety, according to the report.

During the argument, Norris’s wife pushed the barrel of the shotgun away. At that point, the report states, Norris cocked the weapon in an attempt to intimidate his wife and the victim, and told them to get out of the house.

Norris told deputies the victim grabbed the barrel of the gun and yanked it away from him, causing Norris’s finger to pull the trigger, discharging the rifle.

An individual who witnessed the altercation through a window said he saw Norris point the barrel of the shotgun at the victim’s face. The witness saw the victim attempt to push the barrel away, then heard a gunshot, according to the report.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the head and died.
