Another tropical depression forms in Atlantic

HOLT, Fla., Sept. 22, 2021—Another tropical depression has formed in the eastern Atlantic Ocean.

Strengthening is forecast during the next several days as the system moves west at 15 mph and the depression should become Tropical Storm Sam by tomorrow.

The environment ahead of the forecast track appears favorable for intensification, according to the National Hurricane Center, and a steady increase in intensity is expected throughout the forecast period.

Tropical Depression 18 could reach hurricane intensity by the weekend and major hurricane strength by Monday, according to the NHC.
