It’s rib time again in Holt

Ribs are double smoked. After two hours on the grill, they’re wrapped and smoked for another two hours.

HOLT, Fla., Sept. 6, 2021—Celebrate Columbus Day weekend with smoked ribs from the Holt Fire District.

This is the last rib sale of the year, so those missing out will have to wait until Super Bowl weekend next year to get a hot, juicy rack of ribs.

Along with ribs, Holt Fire will be selling gun raffle tickets for an Oct. 31 drawing.

Ribs

Holt Fire is smoking 198 racks of ribs in three smokings: two on Friday and a third smoking Saturday. Ribs will be available after 1 and 5 p.m. Friday and after 1 p.m. Saturday.

Ribs are seasoned with a secret rub, then double smoked. They spend two hours on the grill, then are wrapped in foil to seal in the juices and smoked for another two hours until they’re fall-off-the-bone juicy.

While sizes vary, each rack weighs about 4.5-5 pounds prior to smoking. By the time they come out of the smoker, they’re hot and juicy, ready for a feast.

Cost is $22 a rack that produces about 12-to-14 ribs.

Pint side dishes of bakes beans, potato salad and coleslaw made by Susan’s Restaurant are available for $4 a pint, two pints for $7 or three pints for $11.

Raffle

Gun raffle tickets will also be available during the rib sale for an Oct. 31 drawing during the Harvest Festival at the First Baptist Church of Holt.

Winners do not have to be present to win, but they must pass Florida’s gun laws to take possession of a weapon.

This year, Holt Fire is raffling off a Browning AB3 7mm-08, a Taurus Judge 45 Colt 410 with a 6.5-inch barrel and a Liberty 24 gun safe.

Raffle tickets are $5 each or five for $20.

Directions to the rib sale: The fire station is located at 483 U.S. 90 West in Holt. If coming from Interstate 10, take exit 45, turn north toward U.S. 90, then west at the flashing light. The station is on the right. For more information, call the fire station at 850-537-3414 the days of the sale.
