HOLT, Fla., Aug. 6, 2022—A tropical wave is forecast to move off Africa’s west coast tonight and early tomorrow.
Should this wave develop, it will be the first system to initiate National Hurricane Center interest since Tropical Storm Colin formed the first week of July.
The tropics were quiet nearly the entire months of June and July with only three tropical storms. This was the first season since 2014 that didn’t have a pre-season named storm.
According to the NHC, conditions are expected to be favorable for gradual development of this system while it moves west-northwest across the tropical Atlantic.
A tropical depression could form during the early to middle of next week, according to the NHC.
This system has a 40 percent chance of forming.
