Tropical Storm Fiona forms in Atlantic

HOLT, Fla., Sept. 14, 2022—The National Hurricane Center announced the formation of Tropical Storm Fiona earlier this evening.

This is the sixth named storm so far, four days after the Sept. 10 climatological peak of the hurricane season.

It’s still too early to determine whether Fiona will threaten the United States; however, some models show the system following in the north-northeast tracks of Earl and Danielle.

According to the NHC, wind shear and dry air will slow any strengthening during the next day or so; however, it’s expected to move into a more favorable environment allowing it to grow a little stronger if it avoids the landmasses of Puerto Rico and Hispaniola.
