SR 283 to be resurfaced

NICEVILLE, Fla., March 9, 2026—The Florida Department of Transportation will begin work this month to resurface State Road 293 from the Mid-Bay Bridge to Range Road in Okaloosa County.

The project is estimated to cost $3.08 million. Work is scheduled to be completed mid-2026.

Improvements along the 3-mile corridor include:

  • resurfacing existing travel lanes, ramps, auxiliary lanes, median crossovers and paved shoulders
  • installing permanent erosion control
  • adding intelligent transportation system CCTV at Lakeshore Drive, S.R. 20 and Range Road intersections at the toll plaza
  • upgrading signage throughout the project
  • installing new guardrails

During construction, no lane closures will occur from 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times through the toll plaza.

Construction activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.

Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.

Speeding fines are doubled when workers are present.
