First tropical system possible tomorrow, Wednesday

HOLT, Fla., June 15, 2026—A low pressure are over northeastern Mexico could become the season’s first significant tropical system.

Although development isn’t expected during the next day or so while the low remains inland, the system could emerge in the Gulf late tomorrow or Wednesday, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Conditions there are marginally favorable for the formation of a short-lived tropical storm Wednesday into Thursday, according to the forecast. Should one form, it will be named Arthur.

Regardless of formation, the system could produce intense rainfall, gusty winds and flooding along portions of the northwest Gulf coast.

The first tropical storm watches or warnings of the season may be required tomorrow, according to the NHC.
