BAKER, Fla., Aug. 5, 2026—A Crestview man fled through Baker yesterday afternoon with Alabama with sheriff’s deputies in pursuit.

Crestview resident Akeeme Calloway, 34, was observed by Okaloosa County deputies speeding around 80 miles per hour in a 55 mile-per-hour zone, south on State Road 4 with Covington County deputies following with lights and sirens.

A Covington County deputy reported speeds of the fleeing Lincoln reached an excess of over 120 miles per hour in a posted 60 mile-per-hour zone on Highway 189 north of Baker and 55 mph on Hwy 4 south of Baker. The speed limit in Baker drops from 60 mph on Hwy 189 to 35 mph through Baker.

Per the deputy, the vehicle ran the red light at Hwy 4 and U.S. Highway 90 at approximately 65 miles per hour in the posted 45 mile-per-hour zone.

The suspect’s vehicle later collided with a civilian vehicle at the intersection of Hwy 90 and Wilson Street in Crestview.

After the crash, Covington County deputies performed a PIT maneuver to stop the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect then got out and fled on foot before being quickly taken into custody by Covington County deputies.

Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies did not participate in the vehicle pursuit but responded to assist at the crash scene.

Calloway is facing charges in Okaloosa County, including aggravated fleeing and eluding, leaving the scene of a crash with injury and resisting an officer without violence, in addition to charges in Alabama.

He was medically evaluated before being transported to the Okaloosa County Jail where he is being held on a $15,000 bail fine.
