HOLT, Fla., Sept. 1, 2026—Tropical Depression Five intensified into Tropical Storm Edouard yesterday evening.

A small system, tropical storm force winds only reach outward up to 25 miles from the center.

According to the National Weather Service forecast, Edouard, now with 40 mph winds, is expected to strengthen into a high-end tropical storm packing wind speeds around 65 mph before making landfall along the Texas/Louisiana border.

Environmental conditions are favorable for intensification with warm Gulf waters around 86 degrees and low wind shear.

According to the NHC, it’s possible Edouard could reach hurricane strength before landfall later today, making it the first hurricane of the 2026 season.

Rapid weakening is expected after the system moves inland.
