HOLT, Fla., Aug. 31, 2026—Heavy rain in the area yesterday afternoon caused several multi-vehicle accidents all around the same location on Interstate 10.

Six people were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

Around 2:50 p.m., during a heavy downpour, a vehicle lost control and collided with a guardrail and another vehicle around mile marker 46.

The initial accident resulted in two additional crashes in the same area. In total, 11 vehicles were involved in and around the accident site, according to the release.

Holt Fire District, along with Crestview Fire Department, Okaloosa County EMS, Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol, responded to the accidents.

Once the first two crash scenes were cleared, emergency vehicles left as tow trucks and road rangers cleaned up the accident site.

Holt Fire District was called back out to the accident site two hours later when FHP requested assistance with a third crash.

Both westbound lanes of I-10 were closed for about three-and-a-half hours. Westbound travelers were detoured at Crestview’s exit 56.

The entrance ramp in Crestview opened around 6:30 p.m. Highway patrol troopers released westbound travelers lined up on I-10 around 6:45 p.m.
