WALTON COUNTY, Fla., March 23, 2018–A tractor trailer carrying livestock overturned late last night shutting down both lanes of Interstate 10 at mile marker 79.
The driver was life-flighted with possible life-threatening injuries.
The interstate remains closed from U.S. Highway 331 to County Road 285 in both directions as of 7:30 a.m.
Loose cows on the interstate caused other traffic accidents along mile marker 79 as well, according to Walton County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office along with Walton County Fire Rescue, Walton County Animal Shelter and Liberty Fire responded to the scene.
In addition to law enforcement, local citizens assisted with the roundup to help clear the interstate.
As of 4:30 a.m., there were still several cows loose in I-10.
In all, responders rounded up 66 cows after more than eight hours on the scene.
