CRESTVIEW, Fla., April 3, 2018–A suspect has been arrested in a shooting incident in Crestview last month.
Crestview Police Department reports Tristen Wayne Stewart, 15, of Shalimar was arrested on felony charges of home invasion robbery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon for shooting a woman March 17.
19-year-old Baylee Mendes was shot in the thigh while at her mother’s house in Crestview where she was celebrating her birthday with a friend.
“After [the] investigation, enough information was obtained to arrest Mr. Stewart for the home invasion,” Crestview Police Criminal Investigations Department Sgt. Ray Harp said.
Baylee was shot around 1:50 a.m. March 17 at her mother’s house on Virginia Street.
According to the initial incident report, her friend said a white male and a black male burst through the front door. One of them shot at the woman, who had run up the stairs when she threatened them with a Taser-type weapon.
The case remains under active investigation and Stewart faces the possibility of further charges, according to the CPD.
“The Crestview Police Department is working on leads for other possible subjects involved in the incident,” Harp said.
