CRESTVIEW, Fla., March 20, 2018–A Crestview woman was shot during a home invasion March 17 only a few hours after an earlier shooting late Friday evening.
The incidents are not considered related.
The 19-year-old Baylee Mendes was shot while at her mother’s house on Virginia Street in Crestview.
According to the Crestview Police Department’s incident report, a witness said a white male and a black male, their faces covered by bandannas, burst through the front door of the house. One of them shot at the woman, who was upstairs.
When Crestview Police officers arrived two minutes after receiving the 2 a.m. call, the witness told them the intruders were gone.
The first officer on scene administered first aid to the woman until Crestview Fire Department medics and Okaloosa EMS arrived minutes later.
The victim was taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center where she was treated for a non-life-threatening wound.
The incident happened about a quarter mile from a shooting that occurred less than three hours earlier when two men were shot in a hail of bullets and, both wounded, drove in their bullet-riddled car to a nearby Waffle House for assistance.
Anyone with information about either incident is requested to contact the Crestview Police Department at 850-682-3544.
