HOLT, Fla., Aug. 29, 2018—The National Hurricane Center is identifying a tropical wave about to emerge off the coast of Africa as an area of interest.

A low-pressure area is forecast to form between the coast of Africa and the Cabo Verde Islands in association with a tropical wave that is expected to move off the west coast of Africa late Thursday or early Friday.

Additional development is anticipated and a tropical depression could form during the weekend as the system moves west-northwest near the Cabo Verde Islands.

The NHC advises interests in those islands to monitor the progress of this system.

This system has a medium chance for further formation through the next five days at 50 percent, according to the NHC.
