HOLT, Fla., May 24, 2019–The Holt Volunteer Fire District responded to an emergency medical call just off Interstate 10 Friday.
A 911 call came in about 8:35 a.m. The caller said she was in pain and that she couldn’t wake up the other person in the car.
When Holt Fire arrived to the exit 45 interchange, they found one woman outside the car and another woman passed out in the back seat.
An aggressive German Shepherd was also in the car and would not let emergency medical technicians get to the woman in the car.
An Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrived and, using a long pole, poked the unconscious woman until she came to and opened the door.
Both women were taken by ambulance to the North Okaloosa Medical Center in Crestview.
The dog was taken home by the husband of one of the two women, who were traveling eastbound from Pensacola.
It’s unknown at this time what caused the medical emergency.
