HOLT, Fla., Nov. 22, 2019—An improper U-turn on Interstate 10 caused a multiple-vehicle accident Friday morning in Santa Rosa County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol news release, a Crestview driver of a Chevy Silverado pulling a trailer attempted to make a U-turn in the I-10 median between mile markers 37 and 38 around 10 a.m.
This maneuver caused a GMC Yukon to hit the rear of a Mazda 6 which then hit the right side of a Kia Soul traveling in the inside lane to the rear of the Silverado.
As a result of the collision, the Mazda was pushed from the inside lane to the outside travel lane causing the front right corner of the Mazda to collide with a tractor trailer.
In an attempt to avoid the collision, the semi swerved to the right where it collided with a tree line and caught fire.
Seven people involved in the accident were transported to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola with possible or minor injuries.
Transported were the family of five from Mississippi in the Yukon, including three children under the ages of 12, and the two occupants of the semi trailer, from California.
The Louisiana Mazda occupant and the Pensacola Kia occupant were uninjured, according to the news release.
All occupants were wearing seatbelts and alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
