Throwback Thursday: Holt Post Office dedicated

PNJ11-28-1965p1D

A new post office opened on Johnson Street in Holt in November 1965 with a dedication ceremony presided by Congressman Bob Sikes. The accompanying Pensacola News Journal news article says the new brick building features “modern trends, a lot of grass and far more space” than previous post office facilities in Holt.

Staff for Holt Post Office were Margaret Livingston, postmaster, who had served since 1939; Reese Livingston, substitute clerk; Iris Adams, substitute clerk; Glen Wilkinson, rural carrier; Thelma Brown, substitute rural carrier; and Frank Griffith, mail messenger.

The building is now occupied by Charlie and Kerrie Stillman who operate a fence company from the premises.

The current post office building opened in 1985.

  1. We are interested in any historical photos of the old holt post office, we currently own it and operate Charlie’s fence from it, we are proud of its history and want to frame and post any pictures that can be found, thanks so much!
