HOLT, Fla, Sept. 11, 2022—Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office stopped a fleeing suspect in Holt using spike strips early Saturday morning.

Crestview resident Jesse Matthew Nixon Jr., 36, was charged with hit and run, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, felony fleeing and eluding, and driving with a suspended license.
When questioned about why he fled, Nixon’s response was, “Just retarded,” according to the arrest report.
Around 1:30 a.m., deputies attempted a traffic stop on a pickup truck pulling a trailer with no taillights on U.S. Highway 90.
Instead of stopping, Nixon attempted to flee south on Wilkerson Bluff Road.
During the more than 10-minute pursuit throughout the Holt area, Nixon reached speeds in excess of 100 mph for about 15 miles, swerving off the road several times and nearly taking out several road signs, according to the report.
Nixon crashed into the guardrail at Hwy 90 and James Destrito Road, just east of Gilmore Road, and at one point, he cut across the yard at 933 Broxson Road, nearly hitting several vehicles parked there, according to the report.

Nixon was eventually stopped and arrested on Hwy 90 after deputies deployed spike strips across the roadway.
He was arrested in November 2021 for fleeing to elude, hit and run, and driving with a suspended license, among other charges.
