HOLT, Fla., Feb. 15, 2023—Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call overnight of a man pointing a gun at another man’s head at Brown’s Grocery in Holt Tuesday evening.

Deputies said David Joel Rodriguez, 39, of Destin, was standing next to a white car pumping gas when they arrived just before midnight and got into the open driver’s door when a deputy began speaking to him.
He was told to exit the vehicle and was placed in the back of a patrol car while the deputy conducted his investigation.
When Rodriguez was removed from the patrol car, the deputy spotted a wrapper with approximately two grams of suspected methamphetamine on the floorboard.
Meanwhile, the owner of the car gave the deputies consent to search it for any weapons. A black revolver was found wedged between the center console and the driver’s seat. Rodriguez denied knowing the weapon was there or owning it.
He was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
Prior convictions range from lewd and lascivious behavior and a sex offender violation, to two separate convictions for possession of a controlled substance.
