CRESTVIEW, Fla., Aug. 8, 2026—A suspect is dead following Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office’s attempt to serve warrants at a home in Crestview this morning.

According to an OCSO news release, deputies arrived at a house on Alabama Street to serve a search warrant, an arrest warrant and a risk protection order to the 29-year-old man living there.

The warrants were related to a series of escalating threats, including the discharge of a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school and within a residential neighborhood, according to Sheriff Eric Aden in a Facebook video.

“This dates back to a pattern of behavior that’s been concerning,” he said. “He had a previous risk protection order, but in recent weeks, he’s come outside armed with a high-powered rifle.”

When the suspect refused to surrender peacefully, OCSO initiated SWAT tactics and equipment to neutralize the threat. The suspect opened up on the OCSO Special Response Team, firing multiple rounds that struck nearby properties and law enforcement assets.

Richbourg Middle School, on 6th Avenue, directly south of the scene, was also damaged.

“With school starting next week, this guy was continuing to display some very concerning…violent behavior,” said Aden.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. No law enforcement people were injured during the incident.

At the request of the sheriff’s office, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will conduct an independent investigation into the incident.
